dc.description.abstract	The study examines the community of St. Louis in the light of present day conditions. A brief history of the Metis people including their rise to nationhood is given as a historical backdrop for the community under study. The development of St. Louis as a community setting is discussed and then further studied in four areas. The present day economics of St. Louis are discussed and analyzed. Following this, power structures are examined along with their ultimate results. Some of the more notable social problems of the community are exposed in the following chapter. The second last chapter is devoted to socialization practices and education in St. Louis, and problems which arise in areas of conflict. In the conclusions, a brief summary of the research is given and possible methods of dealing with some of the problems are discussed.	en_US
