The practice of agriculture has always been a major part of my life; as early as I can remember, I was always close to the fields and forests. In these places, I learned the value and beauty of working the land, with nature, and as a community. My connection to the topic of agritourism is deeply rooted in my upbringing and experiences. This connection has fueled my passion for this project and shaped my approach to the design. Yield: Gardens For Agritourism is about celebrating the values of my childhood through the lens of agritourism and revealing the beauty of TimBer Landing by creating a design proposal for an agritourism destination that aligns with the landowner’s vision. TimBer Landing, named after Tim and Beryle, acquired the land in 2020 and is located an hour and a half southwest of Ottawa. The site is adjacent to Frontenac Wilderness Provincial Park. It is incorporated into the greater area known as the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve, designated as a nature reserve by UNESCO. The approach for this practicum is based on landscape architecture and design that aims to satisfy the landowners’ needs and desires while respecting the site’s ecological context of the site and its surroundings. Through agritourism, I have expanded my horizons and perception of agriculture. I was able to reconnect with my heritage and learn to take pride in and celebrate where I come from.
