dc.description.abstract | Politics in Manitoba in the period before the First Great War were probably the most colourful and important in provincial history. A host of complex issues clamoured to be solved. To name a few of the more dominant: the role of the provincial government and the demands of a new economic society; a solution for questions of morals such as temperance; the demand by farming and urban wage-earners for a greater voice in government, and the place of Eastern and Central European immigrants in a community dominated by the Anglo-Saxon. Any one of these factors alone would tax the ability of the politicians of any days, but when several coincided, the end result was sure to be a profound transformation in Manitoba's political existence... | en_US |
