The purpose of this study is to analyze a pilot vocational agricultural course conducted by the Manitoba Department of Agriculture and Conservation for forty-eight farmers in two low-income localities, Eriksdale and Vidir, in the Interlake area of Manitoba. Data were gathered by means of an interview schedule, from application forms sent to the Manitoba Agricultural Extension Service by the farmers involved, and from an evaluation questionnaire answered by these farmers at the end of the course. On the assumption that the major objective of a vocational adult education program in agriculture is to induce farmers to adopt new farm ideas and practices, an attempt is made to measure the adoption of non-adoption of selected ideas and practices supposed to have been conveyed to the farmers by the instructors... The findings indicate a significant positive relationship between adoption rate and level of education and participation in social clubs. The relationship between adoption rate and rural life preference, innovation proneness, and economic motivation is not found to be statistically significant. But the data show a fairly strong tendency toward a positive association between adoption rate and the three independent variables... As previous studies have also shown that earned financial progress is associated with both adoption and personal, situational, and social factors; an attempt is made in this study to measure and correlate this factor with the independent variables mentioned above. This correlation did not show any association except for level of education, economic motivation, level of living, and participation in social activities which are found to be related to earned financial progress...en_US
