Phytoplankton successions and species distribution in prairie ponds of the Erickson-Elphinstone district, southwestern Manitoba

Abstract

The phytoplankton of approximately 50 small prairie lakes in the Erickson-Elphinstone district of Southwestern Manitoba have been surveyed since 1972. During 1973 seasonal succession studies were conducted on 5 of the lakes (Nos. 885, 154, 882, 255,103). These are described in detail in this report. The species list for the areea includes species from a total of 46 lakes which were sampled during the years 1972-1974.
