dc.description.abstract | In order to build a supportive environment, it is crucial to understand the specific needs of a person or group and how the physical surroundings can affect well-being. This practicum project proposes a wellness-focused design intended to aid individuals in prioritizing their health and well-being while overcoming the stresses of daily life. The Seha Centre is an extension of the existing typology of a health club; it is a supercenter intended for users of all ages. The project explores multiple ways of enhancing the physical engagement of the user through indoor and outdoor spaces that reflect salutogenic principles. By prioritizing wellness-focused design, the centre promotes individuals' well-being rather than enforcing an idealized or standardized body image upon users. The centre is situated in Fifth Settlement, Cairo, Egypt. The primary objective for this practicum was to introduce this new typology of a health club in my home country to allow people to experience the Western concept of a wellness-focused building in an Eastern cultural context and, more specifically, from an Egyptian perspective that reflects Egyptian vernacular design. | |
