dc.description.abstract | Three minimalist cyanotypes – a large-sized cyanotype, a cyanotype diptych, and an installation of 81 cyanotype semicircles – form my exhibition Three Begat All Things. I draw inspiration from the traditional Chinese Taoist philosophy of yin-yang and incorporate my thoughts on the nature of photography and the idea of negative space in my work. From the perspective of Chinese aesthetics, I visually present the phenomenon of yin-yang and its philosophy to the audience. The audience interacts with the piece and wanders into the cyan and white. Eventually the works evoke the audience a part of their thinking about the nature of the universe. This article concludes my research in the past two years, in which I further describe the relationship between yin-yang, photography, and negative space and how my works present the combination of these three. | |
