Abstract
After three years in the field of Disability Studies, I felt the need to pause and reflect on my personal experience with persons with disabilities during my eight years of learning and practicing physiotherapy. Reflecting on my experience, I begin to question the interplay between these two fields and desired to learn more about the cultural phenomena that exist within this setting. I focus on my experience in the field of physiotherapy and the philosophy of Disability Studies. I examine the connection between my experience and the cultural norms in society that relate to people with disability and their experience in medical facilities. I hope that by taking an auto-ethnographic approach and examining my own stories and experience, I will highlight the hurdles that disabled people face while attempting to access medical treatments, particularly physiotherapy. I also hope that through sharing my story, the readers of this auto-ethnography will connect and gradually transform their perspectives of disabled people within the medical establishment.
