dc.description.abstractNovid is seeking to improve the transportation efficiency of their Novi-Comp modular composters by optimizing the layout of these composter for cost effective shipping via truck to customers. The Novicomposter is a modular composter available in 3, 4 and 5 foot diameters that can also vary in length depending on customer order. The two project deliverables are the Shipping Orientation and Cost Calculators. The Shipping Orientation Calculator efficiently arranges order items to maximize use of available space. The Cost Calculator determines a cost driven method of best fit for a given order to ship multiple composters at once. The team provided Novid a systematic approach to find a loading pattern which maximizes the space used on a trailer.en_US
