Abstract
Crowdfunding serves as an important means of raising financial resources for entrepreneurs (Mollick, 2014). This thesis is composed of three essays examining the role of various stylistic cues in Crowdfunding. In the first essay, we focus on entrepreneurs’ presentation style and examine how and under what conditions passion displayed by entrepreneurs in a Crowdfunding pitch influences funding outcome. In the second essay, we examine whether the effectiveness of entrepreneurs’ use of particular linguistic styles in promoting their ventures in Crowdfunding depends on entrepreneur’s ethnicity. In the third essay, we examine whether and how colors influence the perceptions and funding decisions of backers in Crowdfunding. We pursued answers to our research questions by using a combination of archival and survey data and our findings provide important implications for both entrepreneurs and crowd investors.
