    Abstract
    While assisting with the mapping of the Ordovician in Manitoba for the Manitoba Department of Mines and Natural Resources, Mines Branch, during the summer of 1951, the writer had the opportunity to select a Master of Science problem. Several interesting phenonomena not previously known, were observed in the basal sand and shale formation of the Ordovician. Through a paleontologic report on the Winnipeg had been recently completed, it was suggested to the writer that a detailed sedimentologic and stratigraphic study of the Winnipeg formation would constitute an interesting and challenging study. After considering several topics, the writer decided that because he had assisted in the mapping of the Winnipeg (Ordovician), his field knowledge would aid in a laboratory investigation of this formation...
