    Abstract
Historic and ongoing factors have impacted First Nations People so much, they are at risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD). Optimal treatment modalities would improve conditions; however, delivery is complex. While discourse on how to care for older First Nations has been ascertained in Canada, little exists on the struggles of caring for on-reserve family members who have advanced kidney failure. Especially when First Nations’ conceptualizations of wellbeing are considered. Guided by Indigenous methodologies, this study enlisted a qualitative approach with snowball and purposive sampling, semi-structured interviews, reflective journals and member checks. Eight family members participated. Participants conveyed a resiliency, subsequent to the Cree way of life across Indigenous and non-Indigenous contexts to fortify their family member. This study establishes the experiences of First Nation caregivers, demonstrates the needs of First Nations facing CKD, and supports studies on barriers to wellbeing for Indigenous patients with CKD and caregivers in Manitoba.
