Abstract
Urban forestry is an emerging field that focuses primarily on managing trees and forests in urban settings for the improvement of urban environments. The discipline emphasizes the importance of urban trees as a critical role in green infrastructure. The Municipality of Oak Bay has seen many changes to its community since it was incorporated in 1906. However, the greatest rate of change to Oak Bay’s urban forest has taken place since 2000. Major residential development shifts have been occurring since the new millennium which has caused major urban forest canopy cover loss. The purpose of this practicum has been to design and propose four new urban forestry programs that target the issues of urban forest management on private land for the Municipality of Oak Bay in British Columbia.
