Abstract
The following report outlines the redesign of the pressure sensor tubes and assemblies for the Venturi FX (VFX) airflow valve for Antec Controls by Price. The goal of the sensor redesign was to allow the sensors to be removable from the valve without removing the valve from the ductwork once installed, as well as to lower the unit cost, maintain performance, and potentially increase chemical resistance. The final design utilizes standard purchasable parts, machined polypropylene tubes, and an alignment piece which is injection molded from high-density polyethylene. In addition to the standard design is an option to upgrade the polypropylene tubes to titanium to allow the VFX to be used in more corrosive environments. The designed sensor tube assemblies lower the unit cost of manufacturing the VFX, lower the required manufacturing time, and allow the sensor tubes to be removed and reinstalled in the VFX without removing the valve from the ductwork. Prototype testing was not performed, and therefore pressure drop data and leakage data were not obtained.
