More on the Homeric Papyri from Karanis

Abstract

A reassessment of the published Homeric papyri from the village of Karanis, located in Graeco-Roman Egypt's Fayum region. The paper reassesses the palaeography of the papyri, but adds new contextualizing analyses based on archaeological legacy data from the University of Michigan's 1924–1935 excavations at the site. It demonstrates that the papyrological and archaeological evidence do not typically map well onto one another.
