Abstract
This practicum studied the effect of the totality of the milieu of the Kenora District Jail on the content and implementation of a social work program, entitled Waking A New Path, which addressed issues of violence and assault against women. There were a total of sixteen sessions which female inmates attended on a voluntary basis. It was ascertained that lack of privacy and the atmosphere of the jail setting impinged on the opportunity and ability of the participants to express emotions, particularly anger. Time and spacial issues also proved to be a primary concern.
