Abstract
In general the term "housing" imployed in this thesis refers to the physical and economic factors which have an influence upon the living conditions of those people who reside in structures utilizes for dwellings. In general the term "environment" employed in this thesis refers to the physical and aesthetic factors which have an influence upon the living conditions of the area encompassing the dwellings. The City of Winnipeg is defined as that area included within the legal limits of the municipal area known as the City of Winnipeg. Because of time limits on the thesis and the lack of adequate informations, it has been impossible to include in the study, those municipalities comprising Greater Winnipeg. However, the relationship of the City of Winnipeg to its environs is considered where necessary... The purpose of this study is; (a) To discuss the factors included in the terms "housing" and environment". (b) To determine whether there are any indications of serious contrasts in housing and environment conditions within the city. (c) To determine the relationship of existing conditions to past development. (d) To determine whether there is any relationship between housing and environment conditions and the indices of social disorganization. (e) To demonstrate the need for a new approach in tackling the problems of housing and environment conditions in the City of Winnipeg.
