Canada is in the process of developing national biodiversity goals and targets for 2020. These 2020 goals and targets will help Canada to focus on biodiversity priorities and provide the basis for measuring and reporting on progress. Like many countries, the national goals and targets for Canada are informed and inspired by the global “Aichi Targets”, which were adopted in 2010 under the Convention on Biological Diversity’s 2011-2020 Strategic Plan, and tuned to the domestic context. In August 2012 the federal-provincial-territorial Biodiversity Working Group sought feedback on draft 2020 biodiversity goals and targets for Canada. A highlights report entitled "What We Heard: Input Received Through Engagement on the Proposed 2020 Biodiversity Goals and Targets for Canada" summarizes the breadth of input received on the draft goals and targets through that initial engagement process. From January to March 2013, further feedback was sought on possible indicators to track progress towards the updated targetsen_US
