Management Advisory Committee for Tembec, Pine Falls. The topics of this website are based on the two topics of the upcoming SFMAC meeting: Road Access Issues and Alternative Forest Products (including non-timber forest products). These topics were raised at the previous meeting on High Conservation Value Areas and there will be further opportunity to address them at the upcoming meeting.

The information presented in this website is intended to inform, engage, and encourage reflection. It may even create a stir. Or at least remind you of something you wanted to bring up at an advisory committee meeting.

To help you prepare for the meeting on October 4, here are two sections for your review:

Public Access  

Read about effects and impacts of roads, and how roads are managed then drill down into the issue of public access to forest using forest roads. Read an interview, photos, maps and more.

This section may help you answer the following questions, posed on the agenda for the upcoming meeting:

What is your biggest concern when it comes to forest access? What could be done to address your concerns? What are your suggestions for improving access for those people that have physical limitations?

Alternative / Non-timber forest products

Read about how non-timber forest product Industry is shaping up in Canada, current trends and concerns and where to find more information.

This section may help you answer the following questions, also posed on the agenda of the upcoming meeting on October 4:

What is your biggest concern about how forest management practices affect alternate forest products? What could be done to address your concerns?

• Sustainable Forest Management Resources - a collection of reports and website sources for more information about sustainable management of the boreal forest, from all sector perspectives.

 

• High Conservation Value Areas tour -the first version of BorealBuzz, in its entirety. Some maps have been removed to increase storage space for the other tours.

BorealBuzz.com is a graduate student project with the University of Manitoba, funded by the Sustainable Forest Management Network. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of web-tools to enhance dialogue at advisory committee meetings.
